Nine on the Wall in Chinatown This First Friday
Our friends over at Contrast Magazine are premiering their latest issue this First Friday at the Human Imagination. If you’re unfamiliar with the publication, Contrast is one of the leading magazine’s chronicling independent culture in the Islands. If you’re in the neighborhood, don’t miss the party and a sneak peek into the issue. For more info, check out the flier posted above.Lucky Magazine Loves Owens & Co. and Downtown Honolulu
We’ve always had a feeling that downtown Honolulu was on the up. In the past few years, the historical district of the city has been abloom with an array of cute shops housed in charming buildings that harken back to Hawaii’s age as a monarchy. Needless to say, we’re pretty smitten with our neighborhood and the way it’s been growing lately. The good news is we’re not alone in our infatuation with Downtown Honolulu.
In the February of Lucky Magazine, the publication featured Owens & Co. and many of our neighbors in their City Guide section. We’re always thrilled to have such positive press from such an esteemed magazine, but even more so we’re beaming that our lovely neighborhood is getting some love as well.
You can see the writeup in the February issue of Lucky, or check the image below for the City Guide to Honolulu.
Owens & Co. Gets A Shout-Out on Apartment Therapy
So we had a nice little Friday surprise when we came into the shop today and checked our email. Our friend Stacie Krajchir-Tom, who founded Bungalow PR in Los Angeles, was featured on Apartment Therapy! And lo and behold, we made her “Dream Sources” list and just can’t stop smiling. Stacie, who along with her husband make frequent trips to the shop, are some of our favorite customers and are always a joy to be around. So thanks for the shout-out, Stacie and congrats on all your success.

Sweet As Ice
It’s no secret that our little neighborhood in Chinatown is quickly becoming a hub for young creatives and entrepreneurs. Since we opened Owens & Co. just over a year and a half ago, we’ve been ecstatic to see new life brought back into this historic part of Honolulu. But best of all, we’ve become great friends with our neighbors. Recently, the always-stylish Lindsey Higa of Fighting Eel fame celebrated the one-year birthday of her fashion blog, Pineapple Ice. To help ring in her anniversary with a gift, I was able to snag a watercolor likeness of Lindsey by artist Jennifer Vallez. I think it turned out absolutely amazing and Lindsey was over the moon about it. Congrats to Lindsey on her first anniversary, we can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
Wicked Color
After recently returning from a trip to New Orleans, I have to admit that I’ve built up an affinity for the way that city approaches color. I can’t imagine many other American cities capable of combining green and aqua together on a nearly 150-year-old home and, surprisingly enough, being able to pull it off to effortlessly. With that in mind, I thought I’d share this photo I snapped of a wonderfully festive porch in the city. Here’s to thinking outside of the box and hoping you have a festive, and colorful, Halloween. —M.
Brooklyn Beauty
We’re absolutely swooning over this glorious remodel of a historic Clinton Hill, Brooklyn brownstone seen on Remodelista. Owners Jessica and Doug Warren worked with Neuhaus Design to restore their 19th century mansion to it’s original splendor. The best part about the brownstone is, the couple has turned it into a bed and breakfast. You can spend the night, and enjoy a homemade breakfast in this stunning abode. A Succ-essful Event
We had a delightful time last weekend when Mary Pat Wentz from Lanikai Pot & Plant taught us how to green-up our thumbs during our first-ever “I Heart Succulents” event. We learned how to care for our little green friends and even potted our own arrangements to take home.
A special thanks goes out to Steve Czerniak who attended the event, and shot these fantastic photos for us. Steve is an extremely talented pet photographer who owns Wag And Snap Photography, check out Steve’s website and adorable animal pics here.
Owens & Co. Featured On Design Sponge!
When was the last time that you literally yelled out in excitement? Think about it for a second. To say that those moments where your emotion truly bubbles over you are few and far between would be a huge understatement. That’s precisely why when a special “happy” moment strikes you, you have to appreciate it
Not more than 10 minutes ago, I had one of those special moments when I found out that Owens & Co. was featured at the top of Design Sponge’s City Guide to Honolulu. (Insert cry of pure glee here!) I’ve been following Gracy Bonney and Design Sponge for some time now and use the page as an indicator and source of inspiration on a daily basis. So yeah, to see the name of my store featured in a place I hold in such esteem was a pretty big deal for me. (Reinsert cry of pure glee here…again.)

The Kingdom of the Moon
There’s an undeniably awkward beauty interwoven into a Wes Anderson film. Maybe it’s the sense of nostalgia or the underplayed irreverence that seeps on the screen, but you can’t help but smile throughout his films. Between the juxtaposition of muted and popping colors and wry one-liners, what’s not to love?
